VALDOSTA – A Georgia native was killed in a single vehicle wreck Thursday afternoon on Interstate 75 in Lowndes County.

Nancy Berg, 61, formerly of Douglasville but recently residing in Tampa, Florida, was killed when the 2003 Ford Explorer she was driving overturned several times on I-75 near Mile Marker 21.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Berg was driving in the northbound lane when she traveled off the east shoulder of the roadway, according to Cpl. Chris Kelch with the Georgia State Patrol.

“Ms. Berg over-corrected while attempting to steer the vehicle back onto the roadway. The vehicle then rotated counterclockwise and overturned multiple times. The vehicle came to a final rest on its passenger side in the right northbound lane of I-75,” Kelch said. “Ms. Berg was restrained but was partially ejected from the vehicle. Ms. Berg was pronounced deceased on scene by Coroner Bill Watson.”

GSP Troopers do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be a contributing factor in this collision. Troopers will continue to investigate the collision in an attempt to determine the reason for the vehicle to travel off the roadway, Kelch said.

All northbound traffic on I-75 was stopped for approximately 30 minutes. The right northbound lane of I-75 was closed for approximately two hours.

No charges will be filed in this collision, reports stated.

The fatal wreck is the second in as many days on I-75 in Lowndes County.

Bramble Robbins, 93, of Columbia, S.C. was killed Wednesday afternoon when he was ejected from a truck which rolled over near Exit 11.
