VALDOSTA — Students in the Automotive Technology and Auto Collision Repair programs at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College recently participated in an Automotive Internship Day at Valdosta Toyota. The event was designed to bring the automotive industry and students together to discuss new and exciting internship opportunities for Spring Semester. Two local auto dealers participated, Langdale Ford and Valdosta Toyota. “For our students, going through the interview process and meeting the staff and management team at the dealerships was extremely valuable,” shared Tom Feagle Dean for Academic Affairs – Technical and Industrial Programs. Feagle added, “Partnering with our local industry ensures that we can produce quality graduates to fill the future workforce needs. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”
Due to the success of this event the college and local dealers are discussing plans for another automotive internship day for the coming semester. Some of the benefits from internships with local auto dealers include; exposure to new automotive technologies, understanding corporate and organizational cultures, being part of a team and building industry connections, practical experience giving students an advantage above other starting a career, and sharpening technical skills obtained in college.
