Emory Lane Giddens
September 16,1950- April 16, 2022

After suffering a stroke April 8th, Lane, 71, died peacefully surrounded by his wife and family at his daughter’s home in Lilburn, GA the morning of April 16, 2022.

Lane was born September 16,1950, in Valdosta, GA to Alice Jo Lane Giddens of Statesboro, GA and James Wilson Giddens of Nashville, GA. Lane and his siblings, James Wilson Jr. (Jimmy), Martha Alice, and John Thomas shared many happy times at home in Valdosta and on his grandparents’ farm in Statesboro, GA.
Lane graduated from Valdosta High School with the class of 68 and from Valdosta State College. Lane had many dear lifelong friends and loved keeping up with them. Lane was an instant friend to everyone he met. Most everyone who knew him has a funny story about Lane.

He married Sheryl Franklin of Colquitt, GA February 14, 1976. Lane and Sheryl raised their family in Valdosta where he owned Satellite Sales and Service, Rural Cable for over 3 decades. To many Lane was “the Satellite Man”. Lane was a fun and loving father, who made his children’s younger years as magical as possible. His children have endless memories of adventures with their father including family vacations, making home video productions, characters he played, dance parties, playing the guitar, and going to work with him.

Lane was a devout, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lane practiced living the gospel of Christ everyday as he attempted to be of service to all who crossed his path.

Lane is survived by his wife, Sheryl: their 6 children, April Giddens, John Giddens (Angie), Sally Musgrove (Curtis), Taylor Giddens (Kynslie), Jamie Nef (Jeffrey), Thomas Giddens (Candi), 15 grandchildren, brother Rev. James Wilson Giddens Jr. (Linda), sister Martha Nesbit (Gary), and aunt Betty Lane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Jo Lane Giddens and James Wilson Giddens; brother, John Thomas; and grandson, John Giddens Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Gornto Road in Valdosta, GA on Saturday, April 23, at 2 pm and a viewing and family visitation Friday, April 22, 6-8pm at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
