Doris Ann Townsend, 88, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born in Staunton, Virginia, to the late James and Beulah Sumner.
Doris enjoyed serving others throughout her life and was a beloved friend and mother. She was an avid member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she headed the Clothes Closet, volunteered with Wednesday night meals to-go for shut-ins, and was a member of the Christian Fishermen Sunday School class for many years. In addition to her years of service, she will be remembered and missed for her candid and loving nature.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Kenneth Bishop Townsend, and her son, Timothy W. Townsend. She is survived by her son, Steven B. Townsend of Fairbanks, AK; her daughter and son-in-law, Lee Ann and Steven E. Roberts of Valdosta, GA; her grandchildren, Khristian Ann Roberts (Daniel H. Keck) of Austin, TX, Christopher S. Roberts of Valdosta, GA, and Kendall B. Roberts (Ashtyn L. Roberts) of Valdosta, GA; her great-grandchildren Brady K. Roberts and Elliott M. Roberts; her sister, Arabella Cline of Staunton, VA; a special little neighborhood friend, Adliegh Partin and numerous other close neighbors and friends.
