James Loran Riggins passed away at peace on Sunday, January 17, 2021. Loran was born to the late James Thomas Riggins and Clara Smith Riggins in Homerville, Georgia on November 13, 1933. He received his education in Clinch County, graduating in 1951. He attended the University of Georgia (off campus in Waycross). Loran enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably. He remained in Homerville until his job transferred him to the Valdosta area in 1981. He retired with the State of Georgia Department of Transportation and Lowndes County Engineering Department as a Civil Engineer. Loran was well known for his love to cook. He enjoyed quail and dove hunting, vegetable gardening and fishing. He was a member at First Baptist Church of Valdosta and Adult IV Sunday School Class. He was a long-standing member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Elks Lodge.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ruby Nell Harris Riggins, wife Tibbie Childree Riggins, and a grandson Robert Jay Deason. He is survived by his children, Terri Lloyd (Harold), Orrin Deason (Joann), J.R. Riggins (Pam); stepchildren, Judy Childree, Rodney Childree, Gary Childree; sisters, Geralda Blalock and Nancy McMeekin (Bob); grandchildren, Chasity Lloyd Luke (Tommy), Owen Riggins, Shelby Parker, Emily Parker Olson (Shane), Jon Luke Parker, Emma Lloyd Strickland (Charles), Harold Wayne Lloyd II (Dawn), Jason Dixon (Shaylen), Julie Madden (Chris); and eleven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, Georgia on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 2:00 P.M.
