Mattie Elaine Coody Roberts, 76, of Lake Park, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020. She was born on October 8, 1943 in Laurens County, GA to the late Grover Cleveland Coody and Theresa Lunette Allbritton Coody. Mrs. Roberts moved at an early age to Brooks County, and graduated from Brooks County High School in the early 1960’s. After graduating she worked several jobs to include DeLoach Hardware in Valdosta, where she worked over 15 years. She was also a dedicated homemaker, raising her children and grandchildren, doing arts and crafts activities with children and working in her garden. Mrs. Roberts was a devoted member of Good Hope Baptist Church since the mid 1990’s and acted as a hostess for church fellowships.


Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband of 48 ½ years, Bruce A. Roberts, of Lake Park; son and daughter in law, Timothy F. and Krystal Hiers, of Thomasville; daughter and son in law Tammy and Kevin Hollis of Hahira; son and daughter in law, Matthew W. and Holle Roberts, of Thomasville; her grandchildren Emily Hiers, of Atlanta, Jared Hiers, of Thomasville, Lindsey Hiers, of Thomasville, Coleman Hollis, of Hahira, Carson Hollis, of Hahira, Austin Fosdick, of Valdosta; her sister and brother in law, Patricia and Ray Leon Simpson, of Quitman; sister, Vanelle Williams, of Quitman; sister, Jeanette Cooper, of Evans, GA; her brother and sister in law, Ronald and Kay Coody, of Quitman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Eric Roberts, brothers Dewey Coody and James Alfred Coody, and several brothers in law.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. John Page officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
