VALDOSTA – A Valdosta woman has been arrested for armed robbery with a hammer at a Waffle House and other businesses.

Release:

ARRESTED: Coneatha Denise Brinson, African American female, 65 years of age, Valdosta resident

On August 24, 2024, at approximately 8:50 pm., Valdosta Police Officers responded to Waffle House, 4152 Bemiss Road after employees called E911 to report that someone had entered the restaurant with a hammer.  The person, later identified as Coneatha Denise Brinson, 65 years of age, reportedly entered the restaurant brandishing a hammer and demanded money.
During the robbery attempt, Brinson used the hammer to damage property.  Through surveillance cameras in the area, officers were able to get a vehicle description of the car used to flee the scene by the offender.

A member of the Valdosta Police Department Power Squad observed the vehicle traveling away from the area of the attempted robbery.  After conducting a traffic stop on the car, the officer found evidence connecting Brinson, the driver, to the incident.

Detectives and crime scene personnel responded to the scene.

Through investigation, detectives determined that Brinson was responsible for two other armed robberies in Valdosta, where a hammer was used.

On July 26, 2024, at approximately 9:00 pm., Brinson entered the Citgo at 2228 Bemiss Road, brandishing a hammer and demanding money.  Then on August 6, 2024, at approximately 5:30 am., Brinson entered the RJ Food Mart at 2012 North Achley Street, brandishing a hammer and demanding money.

During two of the incidents, Brinson was successful in getting money from the employees, along with causing significant property damage. On August 24, 2024, Brinson was transported to Lowndes County Jail.  She has been charged with:

  • Armed robbery 2 counts-felony;
  • Criminal damage to property-felony; and
  • Criminal attempt to commit an armed robbery-felony.

“The teamwork by our department in solving these three cases is incredible.  From the first officers on the scene giving the lookout on the vehicle out, to the officer who found the vehicle and stopped it, all the way to the detectives working together to connect the cases.  I am very proud of the teamwork and persistence that members of our department showed.” Said Chief Leslie Manahan.
