VALDOSTA — Advanced Disposal, an integrated environmental services company, made a surprise appearance at a customer’s one year in remission party.

Three and a half-year-old Brock Parvin was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma at the age of two. After undergoing treatment, he is now in remission. To celebrate Brock being cancer-free, parents Jeremiah and Vanessa threw a party for friends and family. Brock’s love for garbage trucks prompted Vanessa to request a garbage truck make an appearance at his party.

In addition to a show and tell demonstration with an Advanced Disposal truck, General Manager Brian Hahn and Supervisor Todd Duncan also brought the children hard hats and coloring books. Brock also received safety glasses, work gloves and a toy garbage truck.

“We were immediately touched by Brock’s story,” said Hahn. “We love being involved in our community and the joy on the children’s faces – especially Brock’s – warmed our hearts.”

Retinoblastoma is a rare cancer that occurs in one or both eyes of a child and is caused by a genetic defect in the retina. One in every 15,000 to 17,000 children is affected and 3oo new cases are diagnosed per year in the United States.
