VALDOSTA — Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation South awards students with scholarships throughout the year to help them complete their education and acquire new workplace skills. These scholarships are possible only through the donations of very generous people, organizations, and businesses. While some scholarships are named by the donor, many are from the general fund and used to provide assistance with educational expenses such as books, supplies, and tuition. To receive scholarships, students must meet a specified set of criteria, including satisfactory academic progress. For the recipients, receiving the scholarships can make the difference between graduating and falling short of that goal.

Shaquitha Whitfield, an Early Childhood major who received books from the Foundation, shared her heartfelt gratitude by stating, “I’m greatly appreciative of the way the Foundation is allowing additional funding for the students who are less fortunate to achieve a great education.” The staff and trustees of the Foundation share this appreciation for the many donors who make this possible.

More than 100 students are awarded scholarships each year from donations to the Foundation. This helps make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, their families, our community and businesses. Each contribution toward this goal is always welcome, whether it is for a named scholarship or a donation to the general fund, and both are tax-deductible. In addition to cash donations, one may consider giving equipment and supplies for hands-on lab activities, life insurance policies, stocks, and other approaches to giving, many of which offer potential tax benefits.

The trustees of Wiregrass Foundation South encourage the community to support workforce development at Wiregrass through tax-deductible donations to the Foundation.
