VALDOSTA — Students gathered in the Newbern Middle Media Center on January 23rd anxious to see who could spell the most words. These students had already competed against their classmates in the prior weeks and had proven to be the best on their team.

Now these team winners were geared up for the next level of competition to see who would represent Newbern Middle School at the Valdosta City System Wide Spelling Bee on February 6th in the Valdosta High School Performing Arts Center.

The top three finalists of the School Spelling Bee will go on to compete in the System Spelling Bee. All 35 students will attend the System Spelling Bee to cheer on the top three finalists. We would like to extend a special congratulations to 1st place winner Kielle Sermons, 2nd place Demond Williams, and 3rd place was Mariah Mollay.
