LOWNDES — Lowndes High School will host for the first time a Winter Guard Competition on Saturday, February 28th in the gym on campus as part of the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit, the circuit that Lowndes High School competes in.

This event features 16 teams from across South Georgia and Florida in a preliminaries and finals format with the first group beginning at 2:00 and the finals beginning at 6:30. Tickets are $10 and children under 6 years old are free. All tickets are valid for both preliminaries and finals.

The Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC) offers a competitive outlet during winter for color guard, indoor marching percussion and concert percussion units. The competitive season begins in January and culminates in Circuit Championships in early April. Lowndes High began a competitive color guard group only five years ago and has great success with both its Varsity and Junior Varsity programs.

Schools performing Saturday include: Clay, Lanier County, Santa Fe Varsity and Junior Varsity, Lake Mary Varsity and Junior Varsity, Baldwin, Fernandina Beach, Lowndes Varsity and Junior Varsity, Creekside, PK Yonge, Yulee, Gainesville, Oak Ridge, and Cimmarron.
