SR 158 closed at Willacoochee River for bridge replacement

TIFTON – State Route (SR) 158 is closed at the Willacoochee River on the Berrien/Irwin county line for replacement of the bridge located about seven miles northeast of Alapaha.

The contractor is permitted to close the road for 240 calendar days. Signs are posted for the detour route.

Construction will replace the bridge built in 1958, which has restrictive weight limits. The new bridge will meet current design standards. It will be longer and will have wider shoulders. This is an approximately $3.7 million Georgia Department of Transportation construction project.
