VALDOSTA, Ga.— March 20, Valdosta City Schools will begin using school buses as a meal delivery system to select locations for students with limited food access. There are also stationary locations that will remain open on weekdays. All the involved locations are listed in the press release below.

Second Harvest of South Georgia and VCS have teamed up to offer free meals to students during the school closure.  Currently, there are five stationary meal distribution sites operating Mondays through Fridays.  

On Friday, March 20, we will offer a trial run of our meal delivery program utilizing Valdosta City Schools’ buses.  Our stops and delivery times are listed as follows:

  1. The Gables (former Commons Apartments) – 1415 St. Augustine Road at 10:00 am
  2. Prosper Apartments – 1503 East Park Avenue at 9:45 am
  3. Ashton Park Apartments – 1315 River Street at 10:00 am
  4. Heron Lakes Apartments – 1800 Eastwind Road at 9:45 am

The Valdosta City Schools bus will stay on site for thirty minutes and hand out free meals to any child, 18 years old and under.  Meals are provided on a first come first served basis, while supplies last.  Beginning Monday, March 23, fourteen buses will be running throughout the Valdosta City School district.  A detailed map of stops will be released on our website soon. (http://bit.ly/VCSMeals)

The stationary locations will remain open Mondays – Fridays until further notice and are listed below:

  1. S.L. Mason Elementary School – 821 West Gordon at 11:30 am
  2. Ora Lee West Community Center – 611 East Ann Street at 11:30 am
  3. Woodlawn Forrest Church of Christ – 1515 North Forrest Street at 12:00 pm
  4. Robert Jenkins Community Center at Hudson Dockett – 807 South Fry Street at 11:30 am
  5. Scott Park – 900 Old Statenville Road at 12:00 pm
