Unemployment-GraphicATLANTA  — State labor officials say Georgia’s jobless rate has dropped to 6.3 percent, its lowest mark since January 2008.

The Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday announced the new unemployment rate for February. It was down from 7.3 percent in February 2014.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said the state hit a historic high for jobs in February, driving the unemployment number down.

Butler said over-the-year job growth has been the most seen in Georgia since Atlanta hosted the Olympic games in the summer of 1996.
