image001 (5)THOMASVILLE — Thomas University’s Men’s Soccer (10-1-2) (TSC 5-1) soar over the St. Thomas University Bobcats (1-11) (TSC 1-4) in their TU Soccer Breast Cancer Awareness Game, 5-2.

Just twenty-two minutes into the game, Thomas’ Freshman Jonathon McGrath (1G) gave the Night Hawks the 1-0 lead over STU from the assist of Sophomore Severin Abt (1A).  The Bobcats wouldn’t allow for a long lead as they answered back with a goal of their own just eight minutes later, knotting the game at 1. TU’s very own Sophomore Eric Persson (1G), gave Thomas a one goal lead as he delivered a goal off the boot of Junior Lyle Gifford (2A) just three and a half minutes before the half.

The Night Hawks weren’t satisfied with just a one goal lead.  Sophomore Jake Slocombe (1G) fired a goal from a rebounded ball during the 55th minute, giving TU the upper hand, 3-1.  Merely 10 minutes later, Gifford delivered his second assist to Senior Diego Hurtado (1G), putting Thomas in a comfortable position, leading STU 4-1.  Sophomore Juan Figueroa (1G) scored the Night Hawks’ final goal when he drilled in a penalty kick during the 73rd minute, securing a 5-1 lead.  The Bobcats were determined to keep battling as they scored their second goal in the 85thminute, shorting TU’s lead to 5-2.

Head TU Men’s Soccer Coach, Ricky Zambrano, commented on the days performance, “We started off a little unorganized during the first half of the match.  We were able to re-strategize during halftime.  It’s always nice to add five more points in our conference campaign. As we look to out next conference opponents, we need to fix these errors and simple mistakes in order to get the results we want.”
