Release:

On May 6, 2024, at approximately 9:07 pm., Valdosta Police Officers, Valdosta Firefighters, and SGMC Emergency Medical Services responded to the area of Pineview Drive and Deborah Drive after numerous citizens called E911 to report a traffic accident involving a person on a dirt bike.  When first responders arrived on the scene, they found a 17-year-old male, who was later identified as the operator of the dirt bike, unresponsive at the scene.  First responders immediately rendered first aid to the male, and he was transported to SGMC.

Members of the Valdosta Police Department Traffic Unit responded to conduct the investigation. Through investigation, officers have determined that the 17-year-old was traveling on Deborah Drive, while a vehicle being driven by a 23-year-old male was traveling on Pineview Drive.  The dirt bike entered the intersection, striking the front passenger’s side of the vehicle.

The driver of the dirt bike was transported to a hospital in Florida, where he is listed in critical condition.  There was a minor injury reported from a passenger in the vehicle.

The case is still under investigation.

“Our prayers go out to everyone involved in and affected by this tragic accident.  As temperatures warm up, we do see an increase in dirt bikes and ATVs traveling on our roadways.  Please ensure that if you are operating one of these vehicles, you ensure that they are street legal and that all passengers wear helmets.” Said Chief Leslie Manahan.
