Blazer Basketball Picked to Finish 6th in GSC

passthru_imagecredit_img_0328vsu_mens_hoopsVALDOSTA — Valdosta State was selected to finish sixth in the Gulf South Conference in a poll of the league coaches as announced by the GSC on Friday.

The Blazers garnered 46 points in the poll as it garnered one first place vote, one fourth place showing, three for fifth place and four for sixth.

Delta State was picked as the preseason favorite as it was selected first on seven of the ballots and second on the remaining two for 79 points. Christian Brothers followed with 70 votes as it gathered the two remaining first place votes, four for second, two for third and one for fourth. North Alabama was third at 62 followed by Alabama-Huntsville and West Georgia tied for fourth at 54. West Alabama was 16 points behind VSU in seventh with 30 points while Shorter, in its first year eligible for the league championship, finished eighth at 22. West Florida had 20 points for ninth place while Union, also in its first year of eligibility, closed out the poll with 13 points.

The Blazers open their 2014-15 season on Friday, November 14 when they host the Holiday Inn Classic at The Complex. The Blazers will play Lane the first night of the tournament at 8:00 p.m. followed by Albany State at the same time the following night.
