TECHNICAL SKILLS TRAINING NEEDED

Georgia lawmakers are focused on improving the quality of the workforce in the state. Companies have expressed concerns over how to improve the quality of basic technical skills of workers. As older workers head to retirement the absence of skills to perform high demand jobs is a problem.

Governor Nathan Deal says that the leadership in Georgia is aware of the situation and that they are working on solutions to the problems confronting companies in finding qualified workers. State officials say they plan to push for more HOPE grants and new training programs for high-demand jobs.

TRANSPORTATION FUNDING

The repair of Georgia roadways is a major issue for members of the Georgia General Assembly and finding the funds to accomplish the work needed is also a lingering issue. lawmakers are waiting on the recommendations from a transportation study committee. One state Senator estimates the costs to repair and enhance the existing transportation is one billion dollars. Officials say that an increase in the gasoline tax is one way to raise the needed funding.
