GDOT Suspends Construction Lane Closures for Labor Day Weekend

GDOT-LogoTIFTON, GA – The Georgia Department of Transportation is suspending construction-related lane closures from noon Friday through 5 a.m. the following Tuesday on interstates and other major state routes that access holiday and tourist attractions.

The Georgia DOT traditionally restricts lane closures during major holidays to offset increased traffic. This does not include emergency lane closures that may be necessary.

Crews may still be working in proximity to highways and safety concerns may require some long-term lane closures remain in place. Georgia DOT reminds motorists to exercise caution, pay attention to speed limit and other road signs and allow extra travel time for congested highways.

Georgia DOT offers free, helpful resources for travelers. Call 511 within the state of Georgia or 1-877-MYGA511 (1-877-694-2511) toll-free for real-time traffic information. A “Georgia 511” mobile app is available and traveler information can also be accessed at www.511ga.org.

Georgia 511 provides statewide traffic conditions, route-specific information and estimated travel times within metro Atlanta. Callers can also access transit providers, major airports, rideshare organizations, Georgia tourism information and 511 systems in neighboring states.

For those preparing to fly, 511 connects callers to airports in Atlanta and Savannah for information on parking, delays or connections to carriers. An automated voice recognition system guides the service, but callers can also reach live operators to report accidents or congestion, request HERO (Highway Emergency Response Operators) assistance or obtain additional information. HERO assistance is available only in the metro Atlanta area.
