Rep.-Austin-ScottWARNER ROBINS, GA – U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) announced that he will host an awards ceremony and reception for participants of the 2014 Congressional Art Competition this Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 3:00pm. The reception, which is open to the public, will be held at Rigby’s Entertainment Complex in Warner Robins and all submissions will be displayed for viewing. More than 100 high school students who reside in or attend school in the Eighth Congressional District submitted artwork for the Congressional Art Competition this year.

“The submissions for the Congressional Art Competition more than doubled this year,” said Congressman Scott. “I am pleased to see such artistic talent coming from the Eighth Congressional District and applaud our students for their hard work and dedication.”

At the reception, the Congressman will announce the three award-winning works of art selected by a distinguished panel of judges. Additionally, there will be a “People’s Choice Award” winner, chosen by the Congressman’s Facebook fans as their favorite artwork.

The first place entry from Georgia’s Eighth Congressional District will be displayed in the United States Capitol for a year alongside artwork from every congressional district across the country. The winning student will receive two airline tickets to Washington D.C. for the national ceremony and ribbon cutting of the art exhibit. The student will also be eligible to receive a $3,000 per year scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design, should they apply and be accepted.
