LOWNDES, CO. – VLPRA and Lowndes County recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new community center at Clyattville Park.

Release:

Lowndes County & the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority (VLPRA) cut the ribbon on a new community center at Clyattville Park at a ceremony Wednesday morning.

The facility is located near the park’s pavilion and playground.  Amenities include a kitchen, dining/meeting room, and restrooms.  The 2,713 square foot center was designed by J. Glen Gregory & Associates and constructed by local contractor, Kellerman Construction.

“We are thrilled to bring this center to the South Lowndes community,” said Lowndes County Commission Chairman Bill Slaughter.  “This is a place where families and friends can gather, hold events, and celebrate milestones together.”

The center is a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) project that voters approved via referendum with the passage of SPLOST VIII.

“More than half of SPLOST funding comes from people who don’t live in Lowndes County,” said VLPRA Board Chair Suzan Garnett.  “VLPRA has been recruiting sports tournaments to our community for years, bringing in thousands of visitors from all over the country who compete here and therefore contribute to SPLOST dollars.  VLPRA sports tourism operations help provide amenities like this wonderful center for our local residents.”

Now that the project is complete, Lowndes County will transfer the center to VLPRA for operation.  It will be available for community events and citizens will also have the option to rent the center.
