Arrest made for Valdosta bank burglary

On January 30, 2021, at approximately 5:30 am, patrol officers responded to a burglary in progress at Regions Bank (2600 block N Patterson St). Officers set up a perimeter and began to search for the offender. An officer with Valdosta State University Police Department located a subject in the area that matched the offender’s description. The offender, later identified as Gene Schuler fled on foot from the officer, but he was quickly captured and detained. The area was processed for evidence and all stolen items were recovered. Schuler was arrested and transported to Lowndes County Jail. Schuler was charged with Burglary (Felony) and Obstruction of an officer (Misdemeanor).
