Release:

On January 1, 2021, at approximately 3:55 am, patrol officers with Valdosta Police Department responded to the 1500 block of Williams Street to investigate a theft by entering an automobile. The complainant provided the 911 Dispatcher a description of the offender to include the bicycle he was riding. The offender, later identified as George Smith, was quickly located and detained by responding patrol officers. Smith was observed on surveillance video attempting to enter two vehicles belonging to the victim. At the time of this incident, Smith had tools in his possession that are commonly used by offenders who are committing thefts. Officers arrested Smith and transported him to Lowndes County Jail. Smith was charged with 2 counts of criminal attempt to commit theft by entering an auto (Felony) and possession of tools during the commission of a crime (Misdemeanor).

“The victim’s notifying us immediately allowed our officers to quickly get this offender before he could leave the area. We want to remind everyone to lock your doors and remove all valuables before leaving your vehicle unattended”. Lt. Scottie Johns
