VALDOSTA, GA – On Wednesday, July 1, 2020, Attorneys and representatives for Antonio Smith held a press conference outside of the Lowndes County Clerk Office. During the conference, the group recalled the February 8, 2020 incident in which Antonio Smith was misidentified by a Valdosta Police Officer and taken to the ground, resulting in a broken wrist.

Smith’s attorneys called for the Valdosta Mayor, Scott Matheson, to resign and for the Valdosta Police Chief to either resign, and/or turn the case over to the Department of Justice.

Antonio Smith is suing the City of Valdosta, along with multiple Valdosta Police Officers for excessive force and for violating his civil rights.

Video coverage of press conference is located above, and police body-cam footage from the Feb. 8 incident is located below.
