Release:

On May 25, 2020, at approximately 7:50 pm, a patrol officer with the Valdosta Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed. After a brief vehicle pursuit the vehicle stopped and contact was made with the driver, Taviano Grant, and he was detained. While the officer was detaining Grant, a passenger in the vehicle fled on foot. A Valdosta Police Department K-9 unit was utilized to search the area and they located a handgun that had been reported stolen previously, along with a container that contained over 429 grams of marijuana. The marijuana had an approximate street value of over $4,000 and it was packaged in a manner consistent with the sale and distribution of narcotics. Grant was transported to Lowndes County Jail for the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute (Felony), and possession and use of drug-related objects (Misdemeanor). Grant was also charged with numerous traffic violations to include fleeing and attempting to elude. This case is still under investigation, and anyone knowing the identification of the subject who ran is encouraged to call the Valdosta Police Department.

“We are very proud of our officers for getting these drugs and this handgun away from these offenders and out of our community”. Lt. Scottie Johns
