Man attempts to steal purse at SGMC, arrested

On April 15, 2020, at approximately 6 pm, a police officer with Valdosta Police Department was working an off-duty security detail at South Georgia Medical Center, when he was notified a female had been assaulted in
the parking lot. The victim indicated a subject, later identified as Jarvis Johnson, walked past her, but then turned around and shoved her to the ground before running away. The officer immediately notified the
responding officers of the offender’s’ description. Officers quickly responded to the area and the offender was captured and detained. The investigation revealed Johnson was trying to steal the victim’s purse and its
contents. Johnson was transported to Lowndes County Jail on the following charges: Criminal attempt to commit robbery by sudden snatching (Felony) and battery (Misdemeanor).
