VALDOSTA – Valdosta firefighters rescued a dog while responding to a house fire Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 1:31 p.m., the Valdosta Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a residence at 126 Lausanne Drive to find smoke and flames visible, said Chief Freddie Broome.
Firefighter’s searched the home and found a dog who was not burned but was suffering from smoke inhalation. EMS personnel administered oxygen to the canine.
The owner later took the dog to a veterinarian for a check-up.
The fire caused substantial damage to the home, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated, said Broome.
