VALDOSTA – A Valdosta man has been indicted for murder in the 2015 shooting death of Damaria Hill.

Eric Simmons was indicted Friday by a Superior Court of Lowndes County grand jury. Simmons was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to court documents.

Simmons was charged for the August 16, 2015 shooting death of Damaria Hill, 18, at a home in the 2300 block of Caldwell Drive. Simmons was reportedly driven to the home by Terrell Laraine Hill, according to court documents. Investigators with the Valdosta Police Department said the men exchanged words over an issue with a girl, and Hill was shot in the head outside the home.

Simmons turned himself in authorities in Tampa the day after the shooting.

Terrell Hill was charged with being a party to the crimes of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm, but the grand jury determined Terrell Hill did not know Simmons had a gun or intended to kill Damaria Hill. The grand jury did not indict Terrell Hill on the charges.

A court date for Simmons’ case as yet to be determined.
