VALDOSTA — A Valdosta resident has been arrested in connection with a church burglary, thanks in part to the attention of an alert citizen.

A citizen’s call to 911 to report a suspicious person inside the church located at 230 S. Fry St directed officers to respond.  Upon arriving at the church, police saw a male exiting the church that matched the offender’s description.

The male ran from the church and police and was apprehended a short time later without incident. Money bags and currency were found to be missing from the church. There was evidence of forced entry to the church and a tire iron was located inside the church and may have been used to gain entry.

Carlos Roberts, 26 of Valdosta, was arrested for the incident and taken to Lowndes County Jail. Arrest warrants are pending for Burglary, Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Tools during the Commission of a Crime. Officers were unable to locate the missing money or money bags.
