UPDATE: Valdosta > Police Respond To Gunfire and Car Wreck

Valdosta PoliceUPDATE: VALDOSTA — Around 9:00 a.m. this morning, 21-year-old, Dominique Herron received a ride with 20-year-old, Jonathan Gilbert, a man he did not know the name of, but recognized.

Once inside the vehicle Gilbert pulled a gun on Herron. The two fought over the gun, causing it to fire inside the vehicle.

Herron then grabbed the gun, jumped out of the vehicle, and ran north on Ponderosa Drive.

Gilbert chased and hit Herron, then ran into the side of a home on 920 E. Brookwood Place with his vehicle.

Herron was pinned between the vehicle and the home when police arrived. After causing major damage to the home and hitting Herron, Gilbert fled the scene. Police found him hiding on the 900 block of Jamestown Drive.

Gilbert was arrested and taken to Lowndes County Jail and has pending warrants on 2 counts of Aggravated Assault, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, 2 counts of Criminal Damage to Property, Reckless Conduct, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Giving a False Name to Officers. Gilbert had four previous active arrest warrants unrelated to this case.

Herron suffered from non-life threatening injuries including, a broken leg, cuts, and bruises.

During the investigation, detectives also arrested, 32-year-old, Chernitha Berrian for Giving a False Report of a crime and Giving a False statement. Berrian’s sister, 27-year-old, Courtney Berrian was arrested and charged with Misdemeanor Obstruction.

The Valdosta Police Department reported that the case is still under investigation and further charges are pending.

 

VALDOSTA — A vehicle ran into the side of a Valdosta home around 8:54 a.m. this morning. Valdosta Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire and a car wreck on the 900 block of East Brookwood Place.

Upon arrival, officers found a silver Honda passenger vehicle smashed into a home on 920 E. Brookwood Place. A person was struck by the vehicle and taken to South Georgia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot but was found near the accident by officers.

VPD detectives and a Crime Scene Technician are currently conducting an investigation and believe the gunshot and car wreck are related.
