Valdosta > Man Has Standoff With the Police

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Police Department responded to reports of a domestic dispute and gun firing on Thursday. The dispute occurred around 6:00 p.m. at 3018 Amy Circle.

Upon arrival police reported that 37-year-old Corey Spikes ran inside the home and refused to come out. Spikes stayed inside the home with two rifles until Detectives and Crisis Negotiators arrived on the scene.

The police report stated that the victim, Lorenda Allen reported that Spikes pulled a rifle on her during an argument. She fought Spikes for the gun, which resulted in him shooting the rifle multiple times inside of the home.

Officers evacuated surrounding homes to create a perimeter around Spikes. He exited the home and was arrested and taken to Lowndes County Jail and issued warrants for one count Aggravated Assault, one count of Reckless Conduct and one count of Tampering with Evidence.

The police report stated that Chief Brian Childress said, “Once again officers and detectives calmly ended a standoff and I am proud of them.”
