LEESBURG — A Lee County Sheriff, three deputies and the County Commission are facing two lawsuits for violation of civil rights.

One of the lawsuits was filed in Albany Federal Court, by Rosetta Bateman. The other was filed by Novice Powell in Lee Superior Court.

In February 2013, deputies seized $15,000 from Bateman and Powell during a traffic stop and never received the money back. The two were never charged.

They are asking for $6 million dollars each in violation of their civil rights and because they have filed pricey federal lawsuits against the DEA.
