VALDOSTA — A probation officer was struck by a probationer’s vehicle while trying to perform his duties.

Tuesday, at approximately 7:53 pm, the Valdosta Police Department (VPD) responded to the area of Lowndes Drive at Pineview Drive in reference to a request for assistance from Valdosta State Probation.

Valdosta State Probation Officers were conducting a check on one of their probationers, Wendell Baisden. The officers approached a car in which Baisden was sitting, in the front passenger seat, and announced their presence. As Baisden was seen leaning over toward the driver’s side, one of the Probation Officers, opened the passenger door and told him to stop.

Baisden put the car into gear and pushed the accelerator. The Probation Officer was struck by the car door and he fell to the ground.

Baisden got out of the car and fled on foot.

VPD Officers arrived and checked the area, but could not locate Baisden. The person in the driver‘s seat, remained on scene and complied with the officers.

According to the Valdosta State Probation Office, the officer was not seriously injured.
