The deadline for the 15th Annual Black Crow Media “Black History Month Scholarship Essay Contest” is this Sunday, February 28, 2021. At stake? A chance to win one of three scholarships, valued at $1,500, $1,200, or $750.

Over the years, Black Crow Media and their community partners have awarded thousands of dollars to local students. The contest is open to all area high school seniors and this year’s topic is as follows:

“It has been almost 58 years since Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. Please read the speech carefully and consider the following: In light of the recent events of 2020, including the BLM protests, the election of our first female vice-president of color, Kamala Harris, as well as the election of Raphael Warnock, Georgia’s first black senator, what parts of MLK’s “dream” have come to realization? What parts remain simply a dream? Please be specific with your examples and reasons.”

Essays must be between 500 and 1,000 words and will be blind-judged by a panel of independent, objective judges. They must be either uploaded through the websites of Star 105.3, 107.9 The Beat, or Hot 102.7, no later
than February 28, 2021 at midnight or submitted to the offices of Black Crow Media, located at 1711 Ellis Drive, Valdosta, Ga, 31601, by Friday, February 26th at 5 pm.

Black Crow Media would like to thank this year’s community partners for making this the biggest scholarship amounts awarded: Cass Burch, Crunch Fitness, Alpha Phi Alpha, Mr. B’s IGA, Peaceway CMS, Pepsi, Piggly Wiggly, Ella’s Top Corral, Wiregrass Technical College, Mediacom, Law’s Furniture, and Berrien Taxes & More.
