ATLANTA, Ga. — In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers have noticed a spike in price gouging in the marketplace. The Consumer Protection Division (CPD) has been receiving the most complaints about hand sanitizer, toilet paper, water, and food.
Attorney General Chris Carr has partnering with Georgia and national businesses like Amazon, Walmart, Facebook, Chevron, Publix, the Georgia Association of Convenience Stores, the Georgia Retailers, the Georgia Food Industry Association and the Better Business Bureau, as a way to ensure that the public is not taken advantage of during this crisis.
“By establishing lines of communication with the business community specific to this crisis, our Consumer Protection Division is able to more effectively identify and combat price gouging and scams,” said Attorney General Chris Carr. “These businesses and organizations are doing their part to stop Coronavirus scams, and I commend them for stepping up and joining us in this fight to protect Georgians.”
Carr encourages more businesses to get involved with the fight against gougers and scammers.
