TIFTON – The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded a total of $9.9 million in local projects to resurface state routes and to improve safety on off-system roads.
State routes in four counties will be resurfaced at a total cost of $9.6 million. Projects totaling $304,000 address safety by upgrading signs and striping on off-system roads in two counties. The projects were advertised for bids in May and awarded on June 3.
GDOT’s primary obligation is to take care of existing infrastructure and more than half of the total awards statewide are for resurfacing and maintenance projects. Resurfacing projects in southwest Georgia are:
- Dougherty County – 1.7 miles on state Route 234 from south of U.S. 82/SR 520/Oglethorpe Boulevard to south of Oakridge Drive; $830,000 awarded to Oxford Construction Co. of Albany.
- Grady County – 8.5 miles on SR 38 from east of Upper Hawthorne Trail to east of Pierce Chapel Road and on the SR 38 Connector from SR 93/Fifth Avenue to U.S. 84/SR 38; $3.9 million, awarded to Oxford Construction Co.
- Mitchell County – 6.7 miles on SR 37 from the Baker County line to west of Pinecliff Road and on the SR 37 Connector from west of SR 37 to SR 112; $1.2 million, awarded to Reeves Construction Co. of Macon.
- Mitchell County – 11.4 miles on SR 37 from east of Bailey Road to the Colquitt County line; $1.8 million, awarded to The Scruggs Co. of Hahira.
- Thomas County – 4.7 miles on SR 38 Business from SR 38/North Thomasville Bypass to SR 3; $1.8 million, awarded to The Scruggs Co.
All resurfacing projects are scheduled to be finished by April 30, 2017.
The off-system safety improvements will be done by Mid-States Striping Inc. of Eatonton with a scheduled completion date of Nov. 30, 2017.
In Crisp County, improvements will be made to locations on Crossroad Store Road, Ferry Landing Road, Cork Ferry Road, Buford Road, Hawpond Connector Road, Arabi-Williford Road, Sandy Mount Road, New Hope Road, Dowdy Road, Sirmons Road, Powers Road, Brown Road, Griffin Road, Old Seville Road, Cown Road, Sharon Church Road, Midway Church Road, Mud Road, McClendon Road, Byrds Mill Road, Culpepper Road, Hannah Road, Joe Wright Drive and 10th Street.
Wilcox County locations are on Hemlock Road, County Farm Road, Powell Road, Ruby Road, Owensboro Road, King of Kings Road, Christian Hill Road and Shady Grove Road.
