CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Millions of people from Florida to Maryland reported seeing a blazing streak of white across the early morning sky on Friday, December 20, 2019.

Not a UFO or a meteor or shooting star, it was the launching of the Boeing Starliner capsule for an unmanned mission to test the ability to transport astronauts to the International Space Station.

Lots of people in the Valdosta area captured photos and video.

Had everything gone as planned, transport of U.S. astronauts would have begun sometime next year.

The Atlas V rocket was seen soaring along with the Starliner capsule, but a half-hour into the flight, Boeing reported the news that the capsule didn’t get into position in order to successfully make its planned trip to the International Space Station.

Those gathered at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station this morning to watch the Boeing Starliner’s initial flight launch saw it in the sky for at least five minutes.

Fox News reported that the Atlas rocket performed as intended by putting the Starliner into orbit, in spite of its shaky start.

Due to the wasting of fuel during this snafu, the rest of the flight to ISS was compromised. The capsule was intended to reach the ISS on Saturday and remain there for a week.
