TALLAHASSEE — The trial date for the murder of a woman and her three children found dead in their home is finally about to begin.

Five years after the crime was committed, a judge has set February 22, 2016 for the trial to begin.

Henry Segura is charged with the quadruple murder of Brandi Peters and her three children in November 2010.  They were found dead in their home on Saddle Creek Run in Tallahassee, shot to death.  The children were twins Tamiyah and Taniyah, 6, and son Javante, 3, all found dead in the bathtub.

Segura will be facing the death penalty in the case and has claimed his innocence through his attorneys.

A trial date had already been established earlier this year, but was postponed after defense attorneys questioned why the Florida Department of Law Enforcement did not turn over DNA evidence in the case until right before the trial was to begin, according to a report from WCTV.

Defense attorneys claim the DNA evidence is linked to a known drug dealer who was deported.

“There’s 202 DNA exhibits. It was analyzed twice by two different analysts in two different labs and both times, Henry Segura was completely free from any of those exhibits. It’s going to be interesting to hear the state explain that at trial,” defense attorney Nathan Prince said in the WCTV report. “Defense attorneys who aren’t true believers know that most of their clients are guilty in some form or fashion, this isn’t one of those cases. I wouldn’t be on a case as a father of two with another one on the way if this guy had killed three babies. He’s innocent and we’re going to show that,” Prince said in the report.

The trial has been delayed at least 5 times already and the victims’ family is growing impatient.

“Any family who’s had to go through what they have, there’s no such thing as an easy day,” prosecutor Jack Campbell said in the WCTV report, “So I think they are handling it as bravely as they can, as they have through this whole process.”
