Release:

The City of Valdosta has announced that debris removal services, provided by AshBritt, Inc., with monitoring by Thompson Consulting Services, began operations on Saturday, October 5. The cleanup is in response to debris left behind after recent hurricane activity.

Residents are encouraged to follow the guidelines below to ensure efficient and safe removal.

Guidelines for Debris Removal:

  • Separate storm debris: Yard debris must be separated from household goods and construction materials. Mixed piles will not be picked up.
  • Place debris at the curb: Push debris to the curb, but do not leave it in the street. Debris left in the roadway may obstruct traffic and cleanup operations.
  • Avoid power lines: Do not pile debris under or near power lines to prevent hazards.
  • Curbside collection only: Contractors will only remove debris from the curb. They will not enter private property to remove root balls or trees.
  • Clear streets of vehicles and equipment: Ensure that streets are free of obstructions to allow cleanup crews to move through safely.
  • Limit traffic: Reducing traffic during cleanup operations will help contractors move freely and complete their work efficiently.

Residents are reminded not to mix household garbage with yard debris, as only yard debris will be collected during these operations. Following these instructions will help ensure a smooth and timely cleanup process for the entire community.
