VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Police department urges residents to be aware of phone scams. On March 9, a local resident received a phone call from someone claiming to be an Internal Revenue Service officer. The fake officer then asked the resident to wire several thousand dollars to an account in California, in which the resident did.

The police ask that if any residents receive phone calls of this nature that they hang up, do not engage in the conversation, do not give any personal information and do not disclose any financial information. The police also ask that citizens record the telephone number if it appears on their caller ID.

With information regarding this incident please call the Valdosta Police at 229-242-2606. Below is a link to the IRS website and how to contact them.
