MOODY APPRECIATION DAY
Moody will host Military Service Academy Day for high school students from the Eighth Congressional District this Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. The event is held annually at various military installations for high school students who are interested in attending a United States Service Academy. There will be representatives from each of the five service academies to answer questions, and attendees will have the opportunity to tour Moody’s mission assets. Congressman Austin Scott will be present along with representatives from U.S. Congressman Jack Kingston, representatives from U.S. Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson, Lowndes County Commission Chairman Bill Slaughter, and representatives from the University of North Georgia Cadet Admissions. SLAIN CORRECTION OFFICERS FUNERAL
Funeral services for Correctional Officers Wilbur Jamal Mobley and Anisa C. Mobley will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Morven City Auditorium located at 178 2nd Street in Morven, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Pineview Cemetery in Morven, Georgia. Public viewing and visitation will be held today between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. at the Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home in Quitman, Georgia and between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. at the Morven City Auditorium.
SPORTS: TONY STEWART CHARGES POSSIBLE
Associated Press Report…Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart will find out next week whether authorities will pursue charges against him in the death of a driver he struck during a sprint car race in upstate New York last month. Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero said Thursday that his office has completed its investigation and submitted it to the district attorney’s office for review. He did not release the findings. Stewart’s car struck and killed 20-year-old Kevin Ward Jr. at a New York Motorsports Park during a nighttime race Aug. 9. Ward had climbed out of his car and walked onto the dirt track to confront Stewart after he spun out while the two raced side by side. Povero said early on that his initial findings turned up nothing that would indicate criminal intent in the crash, but legal experts have said that does not mean Stewart is in the clear. Stewart could be charged with second-degree manslaughter under New York law if prosecutors believe he “recklessly caused the death of another person,” with negligent homicide another possibility.
