Betty Smith Awarded Service Award by Rotary

Betty-Smith-WiregrassVALDOSTA, GA—Betty Smith, Director of Adult Education Services at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, was awarded the “Service Above Self” Award by the Rotary Club of Valdosta.  The service award is given to individuals in Valdosta-Lowndes County community who have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service towards others around them.  The award is present to someone who uses his or her vocational talents to enhance the community.   Nominees can be from business, government, or nonprofit sectors, or volunteers. There were eighteen people were nominated for the award by Rotarians and other members of the community.

Smith volunteers as an education committee member for the National Council of Negro Women, and serves as officer for Amvets Auxiliary, Literacy Volunteers Program, and New Life Ministries.  At Wiregrass Georgia Technical College she oversees the adult education programs in Berrien, Brooks, Cook, Echols, Lanier and Lowndes County.

Others nominated include Joyce Aigen, Nicole Anderson, Rebecca Bradford, Emily Davenport, Joyce Evans, JoAnne Griner, Traci Gosier, Dr. Richard Hart, Micha Hogan, Dan Houston, Terri Jenkins, Tyson McLane, Sharon Morris, Jennifer Powell, Suzan Prince, Betty Smith, Jamy Steinberg, and Nancy Warren.  Smith and the other nominees were recognized at the April 9 meeting.
