Wes-Hall-ArchVALDOSTA, GA – Valdosta State University’s Sigma Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega (APO) and Students Against Violating the Environment (SAVE) are encouraging students to go green with the Spring 2014 Residence Hall Recycling Competition that runs until April 12..

APO and SAVE are teaming up with the Environmental Issues Committee, Housing and Residence Life, and Plant Operations to hold the competition.

“We believe that doing our part in recycling is a service to others and ourselves,” said Marcus Hill, president of the Sigma Iota chapter of APO. “We pride ourselves on providing quality service to our campus and community.”

The winning residence hall will be determined by the number of bags collected over the duration of the competition by residence hall and then divided by the number of residents in that particular building.

The winning residence hall will be announced at the Earth Day celebration to be held April 19 and will win a pizza party funded by Housing and Residence Life.

“Hopefully, one day we can make this competition even bigger and have other universities compete to see who is the “greenest” school,” said Hill.
