VALDOSTA – Valdosta police have arrested four individuals in connection with a lethal shooting Monday night on Cherokee, including the suspected shooter.

Lenton Swint, 21, was shot after answering a knock at the door of his residence in the 1000 block of Cherokee Street at approximately 6:58 p.m. Swint died shortly after at South Georgia Medical Center.

Valdosta Police Department Capt. Kari Williams said the Person’s Crime Unit identified four suspects through an exhaustive search: Brian Sutton, 21, Johnny Slocumb Jr., 22, Kelvin Latchie, 19, and Daryn Wooten, 18.

Sutton, Slocumb and Wooten have been charged with party to the crime of felony murder, according to VPD reports.

Latchie has been charged with felony murder, reports stated.

All four of the men have been taken into custody and are currently in the Lowndes County Jail. Latchie, Sutton and Wootten were arrested in Valdosta. Slocumb was arrested in Houston County by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Williams said.

“The investigation revealed this incident was not a random act and involved illegal drugs,” Williams said. “The Valdosta Police Department would like to thank the Warner-Robins Police Department and Houston County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance in this case.”

Warner-Robins Police reportedly assisted by interviewing a potential witness in the case and recovered valuable evidence.

“I also want to commend the detectives and officers who responded to and investigated this case,” said VPD Chief Brian Childress. “As they have done with other homicide investigations, they started with very little information and located all four offenders withing 48 hours of the murder. They also demonstrated tremendous teamwork with each other and with Warner-Robins Police and Houston County Sheriff’s Office.”
