VALDOSTA — South Georgia SCLC and NAACP members were Monday working to raise awareness about claims of ongoing corruption in the Clinch County Sheriff’s Office.

The members met at Serenity Church in Valdosta on Monday, then held a rally in Homerville on Wednesday. They claim the Clinch County Sheriff is allowing a bail bondsman to operate illegally.

They also claim that bail bondsman falsely accused the NAACP coordinator in Homerville of stalking him.

“He’s taking out a warrant utilizing the law to come after him when in essence the investigation will reveal that others are breaking the law,” said Rev. Fer-Rell Malone, Sr., President of the Southeast Georgia chapter of the SCLC in the WALB report.

Clinch County Sheriff Winston Peterson told WALB by phone Monday that the county attorney advised him not to comment on the issue.
