TIFTON — Kelly Tucker, Tift County teacher received a suspension period of 10 days from 8th Street Middle School for a Facebook post in December. Tucker is now appealing her suspension.

Tucker posted a status explaining her opinion on the Ferguson trial in Missouri last year on Facebook. When the school received information about her comments they knew something had to be done.

The superintendent, Patrick Atwater and the school board suspended Tucker, stating that her post was “racially charged.”

The school board’s attorney said the post was offensive and unethical for an educator to write.
