VALDOSTA — Police say the firearm may have accidentally discharged while being carried by another shopper.

Please see the attached press release, which is the statement from the Valdosta Police Department in regard to a shooting incident at Walmart on Inner Perimeter Road.

Valdosta Police Officers are currently on the scene of a shooting incident at Walmart, 3274 Inner Perimeter Road.

Preliminary information indicates that one shopper sustained a gunshot wound to her lower leg. The injury is believed to be non-life-threatening, and she is receiving medical treatment.

At this time, the initial reports suggest that the firearm, which was being carried in another shopper’s pocket, may have discharged accidentally. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, and officers are working to determine exactly what occurred.

This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known immediate threat to the public.
