Valdosta, GA- Three straight wins over the weekend did the job for the Blazers, winning the ‘South 1’ regional on Sunday with a 12-6 victory over Tampa.

VSU’s weekend began on Friday, when the Blazers dispatched Albany State 5-4. The next day, it was a 5-3 victory over Tampa that vaulted them into Sunday’s regional final.

The Blazers took an early 2-0 lead on a home run by freshman Kiley Rusen and never looked back. A pair of bases-loaded walks in the 3rd inning gave VSU a 4-0 lead over Tampa, and the rout was on.

VSU is expected to host the NCAA Super Regional, which begins on Friday.
