VALDOSTA, GA – The Valdosta State men’s tennis team made quick work of the Ferris State Bulldogs at the VSU Tennis Courts with a 8-1 win in NCAA Division II men’s tennis action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Blazers, who, according to the most recent ITA poll, are currently ranked No. 14 in the nation, improved to 6-2 overall with the win, while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-8-3 on the year.

Head Coach John Hansen‘s decision to shake up the lineup on Tuesday payed huge dividends for Valdosta State, beginning with the pairing of Francisco Yim Kim and Niklas Herbringat No. 1 for the first time this season. The duo responded with an 8-4 win over Laurent Galarneau and Aaron Dial.

Meanwhile, Mario Navarro Bayo and Sebastian Jasyk played in their first doubles match of the year as well to pull off a 9-7 win at No. 2 over Otto Keresztes and Laurent Mailloux.

Rounding out doubles play for the Blazers was Joachim Schemm and Gereon Heitmann, who took care of business at No. 3, as they defeated Jose Calero and Will Huntington 8-4.

Singles action provided the Bulldogs with their lone point, as Galarneau managed to overtake Yim Kim 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1.

The Blazers took complete control from that point on, however, and cruised through the rest of the afternoon with Bayo defeating Dial 6-0, 6-0, Schemm outlasting Mailloux 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, and Heitmann delivering a 6-4, 6-3 win over Keresztes at No. 4.

Herbring claimed his fifth straight win at No. 5 in singles action. The senior’s 6-3, 6-3 victory against Calero on Tuesday kept him in the ranks of undefeated singles players this season, and moved him to 5-0.

Valdosta State finished the afternoon strong, thanks to Jasyk, who rolled past Giacomazzi Serafim with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6.

The Blazers will have some time to rest before their next match, which will be a Gulf South Conference battle against the North Alabama Lions at the VSU Tennis Courts on Tuesday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m.
