Release:
VALDOSTA, Ga. — First Commerce Credit Union is proud to recognize Yazmin Martinez of Valdosta as a recipient of the credit union’s 2026 MyWay Scholarship. Yazmin is one of four students selected this year for the scholarship, which helps students across North Florida and South Georgia pursue their educational goals and build brighter futures.
For more than a decade, First Commerce has awarded the MyWay Scholarship annually, helping students across North Florida and South Georgia pursue their educational goals and build brighter futures.
The MyWay program reflects First Commerce’s commitment to investing in communities and individuals across generations. Through the scholarship, people ages 29 and younger receive support to advance their education and pursue their personal and professional goals.
First Commerce awards four $1,000 scholarships each year to students who demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership, community involvement and work experience.
Yazmin recently graduated from Valdosta Early College Academy and plans to attend Valdosta State University’s engineering transfer program. The program allows students to complete at least two years of engineering coursework before transferring to another university to finish their bachelor’s degree. She currently plans to transfer to Georgia Tech and ultimately pursue a career as a civil engineer.
Yazmin said the MyWay Scholarship is helping cover tuition expenses and allowing her to remain focused on her studies as she begins the next chapter of her educational journey.
First Commerce CEO Cecilia Homison said Yazmin’s hard work, achievements and commitment to excellence make her a deserving recipient of the scholarship.
“Yazmin exemplifies the determination, leadership and commitment to excellence that the MyWay Scholarship was created to celebrate,” said First Commerce CEO Cecilia Homison. “We can’t wait to see the positive impact she makes through her work and in her community.”
